Michael Allen Layel

Mike Layel, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 1, 2024 at the age of 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Layel and Shirley Edwards, and first born son John Michael.

Mike is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years Joanne, his son, Tom Layel (Kelley) and daughter Anne Haist (Brion).

He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Lisa Reynolds (Tonii) and Stephanie Ford (Greg), brother Mark Layel, and grandchildren; Kaitlyn
and Kensley Layel, Claire, Samuel, Katherine and Madeleine Haist. Mike was born November 14, 1952 in Southern Pines, NC.

He grew up in Southern Pines and Myrtle Beach, raised his family in Williamsburg, VA, Dublin, OH, and Charlotte, NC before retiring in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Mike spent his career in the golf industry, real estate, and later became a boat captain. He lived life to the fullest, was a man of many talents and hobbies,
and enjoyed traveling. Being on a golf course and the water brought him true joy. Captain Mike enjoyed sharing his love of boating with all.
Memories of Mike and “Good Times” shared by family and friends, his stories, his sense of humor and laugh will always be cherished. He will be
missed by many. Sail on Captain. 

There will be an open house style Celebration of Life for Mike on April 20, 2024 at Freedom Boat Club in Myrtle Beach between 3-5 p.m.
