Alice H. Thompson
Alice H. Thompson

Alice H. Thompson, 75 of Myrtle Beach, SC, returned to her Heavenly home Sunday, October 8, 2017 after a valiant 9 year battle with ovarian cancer. Born December 30, 1941 in Eastover, SC, she was the daughter of the late Leon Joseph and Jennie Rena Sharpe Hinson. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Don W. Thompson and her sister, Frances Gaylord.

She was employed in the banking industry for 30+ years, retiring from Coastal Federal Bank in Myrtle Beach, SC in 1996. Shortly after retiring, she returned to work with HB Springs Real Estate/Insurance Company before transitioning to First Baptist Church, also in Myrtle Beach, SC, where she served as financial secretary until her second retirement in January 2007.

She loved her family, friends and the outdoors. Most days you could find her fishing, working in her yard or power walking through the neighborhood or local mall. She enjoyed visiting with friends and traveling as often as the opportunity arose. Her smile and bright blue eyes were inviting. Her exuberant spirit was contagious.

She was a devout Christian and lifelong member of The Church of The Nazarene. During her years, she held many positions within the church, secretary, treasurer, Sunday school teacher and missionary leader. Regardless of her position, her ambition was to always to be a strong witness for the Lord and Savior. That witness was never more evident than during her own personal battle with cancer. From start to finish, she fought with dignity, perseverance and an unwavering faith in God, that positively impacted the lives of all those she met along her journey.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna E. Thompson of Myrtle Beach, son, D’Wain A. Thompson of Charlotte, NC, her brother, Frank “Buck” Hinson (Lou) of Charleston, SC, her brother-in-law, Hamp Gaylord of Columbia, SC, her special Aunt Ollie of Sumter, SC and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at McMillan-Small Funeral Home at 2:00PM Thursday, October 12, 2017, with officiating pastors, Brent Walker, Dr. Wayne Brown and Jim McManus. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00PM until 2:00PM. Burial will follow at Withers Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: American Cancer Hope Lodge, 269 Calhoun St., Charleston, SC 29401 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9929.

Alice was a women of true faith. She had a spirit that brought encouragement to others. We will miss her, but we thankful that she is finally at peace and at home with her heavenly Father and family. Our prayers are with those she left behind, her children. We pray that God will give them peace comfort in their time of mourning such a beautiful life.

I loved this woman-she made me want to emulate her. I will miss her greatly-no words can express my human sorrow, or my spiritual happiness that she is in heaven w/ her beloved family. I pray for her children to ease their broken hearts.

Bless and watch over her family and many friends as they travel down this path to put her earthly body to rest. I hope she is "Dancing in the Sky".
