Joyce Mason Puglia
Joyce Mason Puglia

Joyce Mason Puglia, 93, peacefully passed away at her home Friday, May 5, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 6, 1924 in Sanford, NC, Joyce was a daughter of the late Worth B. and Hurlie Adcock Mason. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles S. Puglia and her brother, Jack Mason.

Joyce was full of life and lived each day to the fullest! She was fortunate to live in many beautiful towns including: Elizabethtown, NC, Hound Ears Club, Blowing Rock, NC and Murrells Inlet, SC. An avid golfer, she was a member of Hound Ears Golf Club. Joyce also had a passion for reading; wanting to share that love with others, she was one of the founding members of the library at Hound Ears Club. Traveling and playing bridge were among her favorite past times. Undeniably, her most fulfilling days were spent with Project Linus where she had the pleasure of making blankets for critically ill children. She was a member of Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her children, Susan Smith (Aubrey) and Samuel Puglia (Linda); five grandchildren, Chris Smith (Eve), Patrick Smith (Missy), Matthew Smith (Jessi), Samantha Staats (Tom) and Jake Puglia (Nicole); eleven great grandchildren, Benton and Tyler Smith, Caroline, Mari and Gracie Smith, Henry and Merritt Smith, Thomas and Alexandra Staats, and Treb and Annamarie Puglia; one brother, Worth Mason (Debbie) and her beloved dog, Chloe.

A graveside service will be 1:00 PM, Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Elizabethtown City Cemetery in Elizabethtown, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grandfather Home for Children, 158 Hickory Nut Gap Rd, Banner Elk, NC 28604.

Sammy and Susan and Families,

You must certainly be missing your dear mother on this day, We owe so much to such special ones who helped our Maker give us life, who nurtured us, were our first best friends, and continued to be supportive while remaining our advocates all their lives. It must have been a joy having her right there close by on the coast so she and you could better keep up with each other. In our class with Linda, Boyd just said "She was a sweet person, and she and Charlie were good to my mom and dad when they lived down the street from them." Everyone seems to have memories, and I do recall what a good name all you Puglias have always enjoyed, and how she graciously put up with my making such a racket ! on the drums + cymbals when you & Susan at your E-town home were experimenting in our youth with putting together a small band group. In now giving rest to her soul, may God embrace her spirit while giving you both peace of mind and support with help of others there close to you.- John
